Oxford United (a) – JPT South Final Leg 2 – 02/02/16

Oxford United BadgeLee Gregory scored his fifth goal in four league games on Saturday, as the Lions registered a first draw in 17 games on a frustrating afternoon at The Den. In a tale of three penalties, two were scored and one missed, as Crewe Alexandra took home a share of the spoils. Attentions turn to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this Tuesday, as Neil Harris’ men travel to the Kassam Stadium, looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg of the Southern Area Final and reach the Final at Wembley Stadium in April. Groundhopper extraordinaire and Oxford fan, Laurence Reade, gives us ‘The View From The Opposition’…

First Oxford game: The first one that I can remember was October 13th, 1979 – Oxford United 1-2 Millwall. I was mascot – not a very lucky one!

Greatest moment following Oxford: By far the League Cup win in 1986 – we beat QPR 3-0.

Oxford go into Tuesday’s game with a 2-0 lead – what did you make of the first leg?: Well, we’d have taken that at kick-off! I’m very pleased, but also very aware that it’s only half-time!

Oxford are chasing promotion from League Two and are also just 90 minutes from Wembley in the JPT – if you had to choose one, which would you prefer? A day out at Wembley, or League One football next season?: No question – promotion is the priority. Wembley would be a bonus – no more.

Who are Oxford’s ‘ones to watch’ on Tuesday night? Kemar Roofe ran the show at The Den…: I disagree! Roofe is wonderful, but Liam Sercombe and John Lundstram ran the show for us!

Which Millwall players do you think your team will need to watch out for, as they look to overturn a two-goal deficit?: All of them! I’m more than aware that the Lions are very dangerous away from home.

Score Prediction: Oxford United 1-0 Millwall.

Laurence’s Team Prediction: Büchel; Kenny, Mullins, Wright, Evans; MacDonald, Lundstram, Sercombe, O’Dowda; Roofe; Hylton.

The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Southern Section Area Final Second Leg between Oxford United and Millwall takes place this Tuesday, February 2nd. Kick-off at the Kassam Stadium is at 7:45pm.
