A 94th minute Michael Harriman winner dumped a below-par Millwall out of the FA Cup on Saturday, as League Two’s Wycombe Wanderers advanced into Round Three of the competition. This Tuesday, it’s cup action once more for the Lions, as they travel the short distance to Roots Hall to take on Southend United in Southern Area Semi-Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Shrimpers fan, Chris Hoskyn, provides ‘The View From The Opposition’…

First Southend game: Wow, that was a long, long time ago now, but I think it was v Lincoln City in 2004.
Greatest moment following Southend: I have two; the first is beating Manchester United at Roots Hall, when they had the likes of Rooney & Ronaldo on the pitch, whilst the second has to be our victory at Wembley last season (in the play-offs), to take us back to League One.
With this being the Area Semi-Finals, is now the time to take the JPT seriously? Wembley is only two rounds and three games away…: Absolutely – I expect our strongest possible team and I’m sure our last visit to Wembley will spur the lads on even more.
With two League Two teams (Oxford playing Yeovil) in the other game, do you feel that the winner of this will be stepping out at Wembley in the Final?: Not necessarily. Oxford are top of the league and playing well – I don’t think the gap between League One and League Two is that great. Being a cup game, you can never rule out a team sitting bottom of League Two.
Who are Southend’s ‘ones to watch’ on Tuesday night?: We actually have a pretty good overall squad, but depending on the formation, I would say either young Jake Payne or Ben Coker – they can cause a huge threat against any team.
Are there any Millwall players that you will be wary of?: (Aiden) O’Brien, being Millwall’s top scorer, is an obvious choice, but other than that, I don’t really know enough of the squad to pick out another danger man.
How do you see the game going?: As is always the case, its anyone’s to win, but I have to…
Score Prediction: …back Southend to win 2-1 in an entertaining game.
Chris’ Team Prediction: Bentley; White, Barrett, Thompson, Coker; Atkinson, Leonard, Timlin, Hurst; Payne; Mooney.
Southend United and Millwall meet at Roots Hall this Tuesday, December 8th, for a place in the Southern Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.
